How To Make The Most Of Your Small Backyard

Tiny spaces that lack creativity and functionality are such a thing of the past. Do not let the square footage of your backyard fool you into thinking that your child can't have endless fun. Think about all the people who own tiny homes and are more than happy. They are living proof that you can adopt the same innovation that you see in larger spaces in small spaces too. Here are a few ways to maximize the fun in your small backyard:

Build a fort:

There's something comforting about being under something outdoors. In the same way adults love to gather under patio umbrellas, children love to be "inside on the outside" too. If you don't have space for a tree house, you can always bring a tent outside or build a fabric teepee with sheets and branches.

Remember the music:

Music can change the feeling of any atmosphere including the outdoors. What may start off “boring” could end up magical with the right tunes. Create a playlist of your child’s favorite songs and feel all the feels.

Don't underestimate the water hose:

You might not have a space for a pool or money for a sprinkler, but a good old garden hose will keep the kids entertained. Having a garden nozzle is even better. Children can play with settings, wet each other, water plants, and keep cool overall.

Add some chalk:

There are two ways to go about this. You can use an outdoor chalkboard or you can use any cement that's available to make amazing chalk art.

Don't forget the magnifying glass and binoculars:

Wonder isn't only found in big spaces. When we take a closer look we can discover awesome things. Keep your children entertained with the tiny beauties of the world.

Create a garden:

There are concrete gardens, vertical gardens, and children's gardens... all of which can be used in small spaces. Better Homes & Garden's Magazine, and Pinterest are great starting points.

Attract Birds and Butterflies: Let the magic come to you. If you're into creating things from scratch there are tons of easy ideas to create bird baths and houses. If you're more of the buying type, visit your local nursery for flower seeds to attract butterflies. Don't forget the binoculars!

Whatever you choose, you can make the most of your small backyard!
